Description
This is the bill of sale of Juliette, previously enslaved by Antoine Chenie, to Henry Shaw at the cost of eight hundred and thirty six dollars. This is dated May 20th, 1836 and manumitted April 24th, 1839.

Know all men by these presents that I, Antoine Chenie of the city and County of St Louis and State of Missouri, for and in consideration of the sum of Eight hundred dollars to me in hand paid by Lucien Dumaine of the city aforesaid,
at and before the ensealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof I do hereby
acknowledge, have granted, bargained sold and delivered, and by these presents
do grant, bargain, sell and deliver unto the said Lucien Dumaine his heirs
and assigns a certain Mulatto woman, Slave, aged about Twenty one years named Juliette, she being the same Slave which was born and raised in my family — To have and to hold the said Juliette as a Slave unto him the said
Lucien Dumaine his heirs and assigns forever free and clear of all
incumbrances whatsoever.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal
at St Louis this twentieth day of May in the year of our Lord One
thousand eight hundred and thirty six.
