"We have had delightful weather this autumn - dry & warm - some rain fell last night _ the first we have had for some weeks _ the rivers are very low, in consequence the steam boat St. Croix has remained for some time above the rapids. Bridget this morning sent [crossed out] to ask me to send for her --as I understood she had been sick and the weather quite winterly in that region. I wrote to Capt. Bersie to permit her to come to St. Louis, thinking her present situation too great a risk for her health. Her wages will be collected when the St. Croix comes to St. Louis."
