James Walton was born in 1787 in Augusta Springs, Virginia, and then he and his family moved to St. Louis around 1797 when he was 10 years old. His father, William Walton, settled in what is now Overland Park and eventually James Walton took over as the owner of the lands. He married Isabelle Musick in 1808, and they had 8 children together, one being Cyrene. The names of the people he enslaved are ommitted, but it was at least 8 people.
