Title: September 9, 1939 diary entry
Description: This entry begins with a domestic scene depicting Swenson's partner Anca Vrbovska and their new cat. Then Swenson notes the war in Europe that has just started, and the political strife at home too. While they currently both work for the Federal Writers Project, they expect Anca to lose her job soon (and May would as well). Swenson then muses on the ways she is attracted to Anca, but still stops short of saying she is in love with her yet.
