Joan used photographs as inspiration for her paintings and drawings, and she made others into collages that she framed and hung on the walls too. She did similar collage work with others’ artwork related to Stanley’s books, such as dust jackets, magazine illustrations and publisher’s advertisements. Likewise, all of these were hung around the Elkin house for years if not decades.
