Proposed Shoots and Content for Episode #203 In the beginning stages of every episode, a proposed shoot and content list for interviews would be developed. This one, for episode three of the series, outlines individuals to interview with a connection to the Cleveland election of Carl Stokes as mayor, as well as those involved with the Ocean Hill-Brownsville experimental school district. By listing possible interviews at this stage, it would allow for those in the production to estimate how much film and manpower would be necessary, as well as travel. -
Proposed Shoots and Content for Episode #206 In the beginning stages of every episode, a proposed shoot and content list for interviews would be developed. This one, for episode six of the series, outlines individuals to interview with a connection to the Black Panther Party, as well as those who were in attendance at the National Black Political Convention in Gary, IN. By listing possible interviews at this stage, it would allow for those in the production to estimate how much film and manpower would be necessary, as well as travel. -
Field Shoot Information Log These are sheets from a much larger log for field shoots. Blackside would keep track of subject, location, film rolls used, as well as which team(s) the interview would be for and the episodes. The alphabetical ordering of the interview subject would also allow for quick reference. -
Coretta Scott King Interview Questions This document is an example of what would be necessitated if an interview was sought after by multiple teams. Each team provided different questions for the interview with Ms. King, thus ensuring the interview would be all-encompassing. -
Early Structure Note for Episode #205 This document is a very rough and early structural outline for episode #205 of Eyes II. Different footage sources are indicated, rather they be Blackside interviews or stock footage, as well as key figures in the stories covered within the episode. Also notable, as it was an early structural outline, the Attica story has not been detailed at all aside from possible key figures. -
Letter to Staff from Henry Hampton At the very beginning of production of Eyes II, Henry Hampton would pen an open letter to all staff, providing encouragement and direction for the process that was about to get underway. In this letter he discusses how proud he is of the first series, but also how the second series can grow and expand the series even further. -
Epilogue Checklist This document lists tasks, as well as a calender of important dates and personell information, in regards to the creation of the final epilogue for episode 8 which would wrap up the entire series of Eyes on the Prize. Although specifically for episode 8, the tasks and calender order are standard for any documentary production, and perhaps offer a glimpse of the intial process for other segments of the series. -
Telephone Interview Notes These documents are examples of Blackside's telephone pre-interview process and notetaking. By asking the individuals somewhat broad questions, it would be possible to guage where they might fit in the episodes. Additionally, the pre-interviews were also a way to ask for other leads for interviews. -
