The draft credits "The Nothing Ventured Press" on the title page and is dated 1993.; Gass offers instructions as to the editing of the novel, including ‘mistakes’ that must be retained; page lay-outs and placement of page numbers; preferred typefaces; “typographical puerilities”; jacket design. . . and much more. The novel was eventually published by Knopf and Gass created a similar explanatory document for them.
