Photography

This section includes photographs by Gass, and texts written by him in collaboration with friend and professional photographer, Michael Eastman.

Gass as Photographer

Similar to his keen ability to capture the rhythm and profundity of words on a page, Gass could catch the essential patterns and designs of structures and objects with a camera. His subjects were both man-made and of the natural world, and were almost always devoid of people. Over the years, Gass incorporated numerous sets of slides into his lectures and readings, presenting them at schools of architecture, art institutes, museums, and other places across the country. He published his photographs in magazines and newspapers, and held two showings in art galleries.

Gass as Collaborator

Gass has also made his mark in the photography world by providing introductions and essays to books by award-winning photographer Michael Eastman. Their collaborative efforts have spanned at least twenty years, from The Forgotten Forest in 1992 to Abstractions Arrive in 2012, and have ranged from books to exhibitions to an iPad ebook.
