Echoes and Afterlives – Translation and Interpretation
Echoes and Afterlives – Translation and Interpretation (double case) Bang recently completed her translation of Paradiso, the third and final book of Dante’s Divine Comedy. As with her translations of Inferno and Purgatorio, she rendered Dante’s text into contemporary American English as a way of mirroring the Tuscan vernacular that Dante chose for its immediacy and warmth. For Bang, the translation of Dante’s poem represents a space of innovation. Her translation practice informs her poetry, and vice versa. In addition, Bang’s work has been translated by other translators into multiple languages, further extending its global resonance.
