Nine sheets of thin laid paper, each folded and framed at the sides with mesh gauze to resemble surgical face masks. Each 'mask' depicts an outdoor scene or streetscape, with additional details and text of a poem revealed between the folds. Two additional 'masks' provide a summary at the beginning and the full text of the poem, signed and dated by the artist, at the end. All laid in a clear resealable plastic bag.
The West and Allied Nations weren’t the only ones who made art defying Nazi Germany. By an unknown German artist, this illustration is mocking those who voted for Hitler. Though this is a small representation, there are many other examples of those, some being Germans themselves, who opposed the Nazi party’s uprising into power.
